Message from Fr RuslanTrue Humility Before God
In this Sunday’s Gospel (Luke 18:9-14), Jesus tells the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Both go to the temple to pray, but their attitudes could not be more different. The Pharisee proudly lists his good deeds, confident in his own righteousness, while the tax collector stands at a distance, humbly beating his breast and saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”
Jesus teaches us that true prayer begins with humility. God is not impressed by self-congratulation but is moved by a humble and contrite heart. The one who recognises his need for mercy goes home justified. This Gospel invites us to look honestly at our hearts, to set aside pride and comparison, and to approach God with sincerity. When we humble ourselves before Him, we open our lives to His transforming grace. With prayers, Father Ruslan and the PPC. Ecumenical Anti-Slavery Ambassadors raise awareness of modern slavery across Sussex & SurreyDiocesan Anti-Modern Slavery Ambassadors joined representatives from The Clewer Initiative, Sussex Police, and the Mothers’ Union at St John the Evangelist, Preston, Brighton (CofE) on Saturday. The event – which took place on Anti-Slavery Day – included a range of speakers and provided an important opportunity to pray for victims and survivors, hear from experts combatting modern slavery locally and nationally, and learn more about “spotting the signs” and the various reporting mechanisms. October - Month of MaryIn October we celebrate the month of Mary. To mark this special time, we will say the Rosary after weekday masses and say a decade of the Rosary before the vigil and Sunday masses. At Tuesday’s Adoration we will talk about Rosary miracles and say the Rosary. There will also be a basket where you can put your intentions to Our Blessed Mother. Please do come along, to honour Our Lady and pray the Rosary. There will also be a display in the porch on how to say the Rosary and blessed Rosaries will be available if you would like one. Try to say the Rosary or part of it daily throughout October: “To pray the Rosary is to hand over our burdens to the merciful hearts of Christ and His Mother” - Pope St John Paul II |

YOUR EASTER AND CHRISTMAS OFFERINGS
|
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
A gentle reminder that parish priests do not get paid a salary and are remunerated from Mass stipends and from the Easter and Christmas Offerings. Easter offerings go to Fr Ruslan as your personal gift. If you are planning to donate via bank transfer, please use the reference 'Easter Offering' or 'Christmas Offering'. Thank you in advance for your generosity. All money paid into the collection is used to cover the parish's expenses. Our challenge is to grow our parish's financial income to support our parish priest, maintain our premises and resource the many activities of the parish. This can be achieved by more people giving and/or people giving more generously. Please consider what you can do to help. We have special funds for projects and maintenance. Any questions on gift aid or if you need a form please email Kevin Kilburn on [email protected] Thank you very much for your generosity and support to the parish. I greatly appreciate all your help and financial contribution. May God bless you all!!! |
